Many people believe that bones lose calcium only if there is not enough calcium in our diets. The National Dairy Council is the main spokesman for this point of view, and their proposed solution is for us to drink more milk and eat more dairy products. However, modern nutritional research indicates a major flaw in this perspective. Osteoporosis (fragile bones & susceptibility to fractures) is a disease with many causes, one being the EXCESS OF ANIMAL PROTEIN! So when you hear that “milk helps make bones stronger” just remember that not everything you hear is true!
Below are statistics from researchers in Michigan State:
finding that by 65, in the United States:
• Male vegetarians had an average measurable bone loss of 3%
• Male meat-eaters had an average measurable bone loss of 7%
• Female vegetarians had an average measurable bone loss of 18%
• Female meat-eaters had an average measurable bone loss of 35%
In conclusion, GO FOR ALMONDS! Almond milk has 50% more calcium than cow milk and tastes great! Big companies profit off of the sick! Let’s do something to change that!
